The National Park Service Act of 1916 is a federal law that established the National Park Service (NPS), an agency of the U.S. Department of the Interior.

The act gathered into a single system the fourteen national parks and twenty-one national monuments. The NPS was entrusted with the duty to manage the system. The act declared the fundamental purpose of the national park system as to conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and the wild life therein and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations.
