Elma Electronic enables application-specific configurations for rail

To meet the growing number of distributed power requirements across different embedded computing applications, Elma Electronic has introduced the ELOS CompactPCI Serial-based system platform.

It is a rugged chassis which offers an ecosystem of building blocks from multiple board vendors for railway, automotive and industrial applications. There are several variants available, via a choice of a two- or three-slot backplane, three enclosure sizes and four power supply configurations.

The enclosure is available with output voltages of 12, 24 or 48V as well as output power up to 75W. The wide range of configurations enables custom-built designs for rugged and mobile applications without proprietary interfaces of form factors, says Elma Electronic.

The ELOS platform can be constructed to meet a variety of system requirements. A typical configuration consists of a rugged enclosure, backplane, power supply and the required CompactPCI Serial CPU, peripheral and mezzanine cards to achieve the application’s intended functionality.

The fully-enclosed system is constructed of extruded aluminium and can be passively or actively cooled, offering up to three 3U slots as well as a bay for the power supply.

Typically featuring a three-slot backplane, ELOS can be designed with a two-slot backplane with a system slot in the centre of the housing for applications where a mezzanine card is stacked on the CPU. Although optimised for a CompactPCI Serial backplane, the system can accommodate almost any backplane technology, says Elma Electronic.

Pricing and delivery are dependent on configuration.

Elma Electronic manufactures commercial, industrial and rugged electronic products for embedded systems and application-ready platforms, ranging from components, instrument cases and chassis platforms to embedded boards, backplanes and fully integrated subsystems.

Elma also offers standard and custom cabinets and enclosures as well as precision components such as rotary switches/encoders, LEDs, front panels and small cases.

The company’s technology is based on VITA, PICMG, and other standards-based architectures (i.e. OpenVPX, VME, CompactPCI Serial, ATCA, COM Express and PCIe/104).

Elma Electronic manages entire projects from initial system architecture to specification, design, manufacturing and test through its worldwide production facilities and sales offices. The company serves the mil/aero, industrial, research, telecom, medical and commercial markets and is certified to ISO 9001 and AS 9100.

It has headquarters in Fremont, California, USA, with sales, engineering and manufacturing operations in Atlanta, Georgia and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
